Massage is a simple, non-intrusive therapy that restores, rehabilitates and revitalises the body and mind.
Massage therapy eases the pain and discomfort of injuries, strains, accidents and illness to allow the body’s natural healing process to work most effectively. It enhances vitality and promotes overall well-being.
Massage involves acting on and manipulating the body with pressure – structured, unstructured, stationary, or moving – tension, motion, or vibration, done manually or with mechanical aids.
At Back on Track we offer a range of massage treatments including:
Remedial Massage – facilitates a change in the body via the manipulation of soft tissue structures. This promotes the body’s natural healing process to restore homeostasis* and proper functioning physically, physiologically and emotionally.
Homeostasis – the physiological process by which internal systems of the body are maintained at equilibrium, e.g. blood pressure and body temperature
Swedish Massage – is an all-over relaxation massage. It uses light, rhythmic strokes, which aim at reducing both physical and emotional stress. The purpose of Swedish Massage is to increase oxygen flow in the blood and release toxins from the muscles.
Sports Massage – is a deep tissue massage for sport and occupational injuries. The techniques used work deeply into the muscle fibres and close to the bone to break up adhesions often associated with localised pain. Its stimulating effect ensures greater and easier movement for sport and exercise.
Pregnancy Massage – using our comfortable “belly pillow” feelings of discomfort may be experienced during pregnancy. Massage is a perfect way to reduce stress and promote general well-being. Massage during pregnancy can reduce peripheral swelling, help prevent insomnia, reduces muscle cramps and back pain, and soothe the nervous system.

Hydrotherapy is a type of exercise that is performed in the water. A hydrotherapy pool is warmer than a normal pool (the temperature is 33-37°C), which allows you to move comfortably and makes exercise easy and enjoyable. Hydrotherapy can be used to build up strength, ease stiff joints and relax sore muscles. Water’s buoyancy greatly reduces the pressure on your joints, making it easier to perform exercises through a large range of motion.
What are the benefits of hydrotherapy?
-
Enables you to exercise without jarring your joints
-
Assists anti-gravity movements such as lifting or jumping
-
Allows a full range of movements of the joints without strain
-
Water properties mean that exercise can be easily adjusted to be more or less difficult
-
Swimming is a non-stressful aerobic exercise
-
Being in the water provides relaxation
-
Warm water warms your muscles and joints so they are more flexible and able to move easily
With extensive knowledge of the biomechanics of movement and injuries, physiotherapists are experts in prescribing the best exercise program for each client. We tailor each strength and conditioning program specific to your lifestyle, with the aim to either achieve full recovery from an injury, for future injury prevention or simply to improve your general fitness and core stability.
Orthotics are made to correct various biomechanical problems in the feet by realigning and stabilising the bones. They allow your feet, legs, hips, pelvis and low back to function more efficiently to reduce strain and pain from many different structures. They restore natural walking and running patterns, and are an extremely important part in the prevention and long-term solution of many problems in the feet, legs and hips.
Abnormal walking patterns can lead to low back, hip, knee and ankle problems allow our experts assess your feet today
